Last night was our first Friday night back in Hillsdale. Usually there is plenty going on around campus, so much in fact, that we have a hard time deciding which activity to participate in. Last night was a bit different.
The evening started with a house meeting and the de-assembling of our Christmas tree, followed by a roomie dinner date at Marcella's. Sarah and I enjoyed one another's company - getting back on track, updating one another and sipping on delicious chai lattes. From dinner, Sarah and I met up with other friends at one of the college's auditoriums for a performance by the Manhattan Piano Trio. The show was enjoyable - the musicians were very expressive and the pieces generally well selected. After the performance, we headed back to the Paul House, where we stayed for a few hours. Amy, Sarah, Abby and I spent time chilling in Sarah and my room. We felt lame just staying in on a Friday night, but we also didn't feel like being part of a big group.
However, the night was not to remain boring. After non-chalantly mentioning that I could go for a margarita, Amy jumped out of her seat (as she so often does) and yelled, "I know what we can do! Let's got to Los Mariachi's and get margaritas and chips and salsa!" After some negotiating, planning and a call to the restaurant, we started on our way. The restaurant had told us they would stay open for us and give a $3 deal on margaritas. We were thrilled. We picked up Shannon and Winnie along the way and were pulling into a deserted parking lot-except for one vehicle-within 20 minutes. And deserted the restaurant certainly was. They had not been kidding when they said they would be open for us. We were the only people, except for the workers. So today's picture is of Shannon and I awkwardly sipping our margaritas, our expressions being a reflection of the environmental situation.
After the chips, salsa and margaritas, we all headed over to Winnie's house for a couple drinks and quality hang-out time. We enjoyed our time together and eventually headed back to the our house. However, as Amy, Abby and I walked arm-in-arm in order to keep from slipping on the ice, we realized we needed toilet paper at our house. Without flinching, we determined we must head over to Lane, one of the classroom buildings, to get toilet paper. The situation was quite frustrating, as we had told the school on Tuesday that we need TP and they had yet to meet the demand. We have a house of 14 girls, and we need the TP. A couple girls even drove to maintenance yesterday to see if they could pick up the TP in order to speed up the process, but the building was closed. So, this is all a precursor for the fact that we took as much TP from Lane, perhaps including all of the TP in the men's bathroom, but maybe not. It was a desperate time and called for desperate measures, with a little fun thrown in. We returned with our tower of toilet paper with big smiles, thankful for fun times with friends and comfort for our bottoms.
